Hi everybody! Today I will talk about the process of creating a flipped teaching video with my friend Sümeyye. Enjoy :)

First, let's discuss the meaning of the flipped classroom approach. It is an approach where the students watch the video-based material to familiarize themselves with new information or topics before class meetings. During class, they engage in group or pairwork, and discussions. Additionally, they can engage in written or spoken practice exercises to further their grasp of the material.

One of the advantages of using the flipped classroom approach is that before class, students can select the methods, times, and locations in which they would want to view the instructional materials. In contrast to traditional teaching which is teacher-centered, students take on the responsibility. It allows for an autonomous learning environment. However, there are also some disadvantages of using the flipped classroom approach. There could be technological issues. For example, the teacher must be certain about the digital divide between the students. We can do a mini-survey about it beforehand. Moreover, the students or teachers may have negative attitudes towards the new method. A new change might scare them so we need to make sure that they understand the benefits of using the flipped classroom method.

In our Current Issues class, we were assigned to make a flipped teaching video and work in pairs. We had two choices: Creating a grammar-teaching video for a flipped EFL classroom or creating a vocabulary-teaching video for a flipped EFL classroom. For this assignment, I worked with my friend Sümeyye and we decided to create a grammar-teaching video. Our target audience was high school prep classroom students with A1 through A2 levels of English. Moreover, our grammar points for the video are "there is" and "there are".

My partner Sümeyye wrote the script and added quizzes to make our video interactive. To add quizzes, she used Edpuzzle. It is a simple and fast website to use. She created an open class where you don't have to enter a class code. It allows students to access the flipped teaching video without any delay. The website also lets you add pictures to your questions, so we highly suggest this website. Designing the presentation and editing the video was my part. At first, we recorded our voice recordings separately. Then, I matched the combined audio with the presentation by recording the screen in Microsoft PowerPoint. I combined two separate audio online through Clideo  and edited the video with iMovie. The only problem was finding the right website to add quizzes to the video. However, we found Edpuzzle thanks to our instructor.

Here is the classroom code in case you cannot enter it automatically: feahoga
